Finally decided to get a dog? Whew, the hard part is over...not! Adopting a dog is a long-term decision, so it's important to choose a breed which matches your family's lifestyle, personalities and requirements. Then, of course, you'll have to pick a name which suits the dog you've chosen - or who's chosen you. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Choosing a Dog Breed
As you're researching dog breeds, keep the following questions in mind:
• What size dog do you want?
• Do you have small children?
• Do you want a guard dog or a watchdog?
• Will your dog be left home along for long periods of time?
• How much exercise can you give the dog each day?
As an added bonus, look for a dog breed that meets all your criteria...and also has a funny-sounding name!
Examples:
• Bearded Collie: Related to the bearded dragon, perhaps?
• Bolognese: Isn't this a spaghetti sauce?
• Pocket Beagle: Does Snoopy qualify?
• Rat Terrier: Is it a rat or a dog?
And now for some amusing hybrids:
• Peekapoo (Pekingese and Poodle mix)
• Schnoodle (Miniature Schnauzer and Toy Poodle mix)
• Poinsetter (English Setter and German Shorthaired Pointer mix)
• Chi-Shih-Tzu (Shih Tzu and Chihuahua mix)
