Nowadays celebrities have become so attached to their dogs that the pets have taken on a celebrity status of their own. Perhaps you’ve heard of President Barack Obama and the First Dog, Bo, who is a Portuguese Water dog. The pet was gifted to the First Family of the United States by former Senator Ted Kennedy, and was chosen for its hypoallergenic coat.
Other celebrity dogs include Bit Bit, who is Britney Spears’ pet Chihuahua. Bit Bit is often seen wearing extravagant costumes, including a $100,000 collar encrusted with diamonds. Another small dog who has achieved celeb status is Penny, a Pomeranian Maltese mix who is owned by Susan Sarandon. Penny has even gotten her acting chops by appearing in Bernard and Doris, acting as herself alongside Sarandon. Felicity Huffman from Desperate Housewives adopted a tiny miniature poodle whom is named Tucker. The duo has gone on to bring awareness to adoptive dogs with the Home 4 the Holidays dog adoption drive. Tennis superstar Serena Williams has two small dogs, a wily Jack Russell terrier named Jackie and a Maltese named Lorelie. Sister to Serena, Venus Williams owns a Havanese, who is named Harold.
Several celebrities own celeb dogs who are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Courtney Cox Arquette and David Arquette have pair of Cavalier Spaniels, one named Harley and the other named Hopper. Julianna Hough’s Cavalier is named Lexi, while Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Cavalier is named Charlie. Brad Paisley, country music star, owns a Cavalier who is named Holler. Diane Sawyer, the news broadcaster of Good Morning America fame, has a Cavalier named Brinklow La Bamba Lila.
Another popular type of celeb dog is the bulldog. Actress Jessica Alba owns an American bulldog named Bowie, after the rock star David Bowie, while actress Jessica Biel has an American bulldog that is named East. Rock star Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy owns an English bulldog who goes by Hemingway.
